Background
SCRA works with the Sub-County Administrator and NEMA to address illegal structures built on the beach and along beach access roads, including restaurants and beach walls that obstruct public access.
Actions Undertaken
SCRA has submitted a report to the Lands Commission and compiled maps documenting plots and beach access roads across the South Coast. SCRA is also working with the Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Kwale County Government on the proposed Beach Management Bill.
Progress Updates
- 24 June 2026SCRA wrote to the Diani Hospitality Owners Association requesting members undertake landscaping along road-facing property frontages to deter illegal kiosks (bandas) and road-reserve encroachment.
